Worcester Green Party vote more than doubles at County elections

Paul Snookes, Annie Murphy, Louis Stephen and Peter Robinson
Compared to the last County elections, Worcester Green Party's overall share of the vote has more than doubled from 7% to over 17%, and they have overtaken the Liberal Democrats as the third party in Worcester politics. Green Party candidates came second in St Peter's (Paul Snookes), Warndon Villages (Annie Murphy) and Riverside (Louis Stephen). In Claines the Green Party candidate (Peter Robinson) pushed Labour into 4th place.
In the Worcester City divisions, Greens received 17.1% of all votes cast, coming third behind the Conservatives (42.6%) and Labour (22.7%). The Lib Dems, fielding fewer candidates, received 11.0% of all votes. In the county as a whole, Greens achieved 8.2% of the vote, suggesting that support for the Green Party is particularly strong in Worcester, where the Green vote surged from 3,318 at the last County elections to 4,663 this time.
