FELICITY NORMAN

I am married with two daughters, and live with my family on a smallholding in Herefordshire.

I have been a member of the Green Party for about 25 years and have been actively involved with my local party in Herefordshire during all of that time.

I have been a Green Party candidate at European, Parliamentary and local level.  I was twice elected to our local District Council, before it was replaced by our present unitary authority, and gained useful experience on different committees, including Planning and Housing, as well as dealing with various problems within my ward, and working with local Parish Councils. In last year's unitary authority elections, although disappointed at not getting elected, I gained a higher vote than Labour, Lib Dem and independent candidates.

My Green Party experience has included regular public speaking, radio and TV interviews, visiting local schools and colleges. I have also been chair of our local party, press officer, fundraiser and party speaker.  Nationally, I have been West Midlands rep on Regional Council, (1980s), Chair of Elections Committee (1980s), Speaker on Agriculture, chaired a London Transport Rally, and represented the Green Party at  conferences, including one held at the House of Lords. I also represent the Green party on the West Midlands Constitutional Convention.

My local community involvement has included being a  management committee member of voluntary organisations such as Citizens Advice Bureau and Voluntary Action (past),  and Shopmobility (present) am currently a Governor at the local Comprehensive School (committee chair) and organise our local Apple Fair. I am a teacher, (currently supply) and have regularly run local workshops on peace, environment and development issues. I am a member of several campaigning organisations such as FOE, Amnesty International, the Soil Association and CND, although sadly don’t have time to be very actively involved.
