Green Party calls for Tetra Pak recycling in Worcestershire

Call for move towards Zero Waste strategy in Recycle Now Week

Worcestershire Green Party is urging Worcestershire County Council to introduce recycling for Tetra Pak cartons, as part of a wider move towards a "zero waste" strategy for the County.

Spokesman Chris Lennard has written to Ian Holebrook, Waste Manager at the Council, pointing out that 31.5% of local authorities in the UK now recycle Tetra Paks, and asking the County to follow suit.

Said Mr Lennard: "Tetra Pak cartons are now widely used as a drink packaging, and are forming a larger proportion of non-recycled material going into landfill.

"Many European countries now achieve very high recycling rates for these cartons, and here in the UK 31.5% of local authorities now have some form of Tetra Pak recycling scheme. Recycle Now Week seems a good time for the County Council to be thinking of introducing it here, so I have written to Mr.Holebrook asking if they are considering it.

"Worcestershire Green Party's policy is that we should reduce consumption and re-use where possible, but recycling plays an important part. Introducing Tera Pak recycling would be an important step towards a "zero waste" strategy for the County."
